My Favourite Photograph

This is my favourite photograph. I chose it because I found the scenery very beautiful. The palm trees are aligned in a neat row and are standing tall and upright, overlooking the children's pool. Further behind, is the water fountain. The most prominant thing in this photograph is the greenery. It is something that I am very proud of as we won a green award for our recycling and green efforts.

Best two sentences
1)The palm trees are aligned in a neat row and are standing tall and upright, overlooking the children's pool.
2) The most prominant thing in this photograph is the greenery

Additional metaphors/similes
1)The palm trees were aligned in a neat row like soldiers and stood ramrod straight, overlooking the children's pool.
2)The most prominant thing in this photograph is the beautiful greenery and manicured garden

Best of the two and working on it:
1)The palm trees stood as tall as giants with ramrod straight postures , with lime green leaves swaying gently in the gentle breeze, overlooking the calm waters of the children's playpool.

Three paragraphs:
The moment I gaze out of the window, the wind gently caresses my face. Then I see it, the palm trees. How could I miss it? They were standing so tall, and I would have imagined that they were as tall as giants. Not normal giants, but giants with ramrod straight postures.

They were a pleasant sight to see, aligned in a neat row, just like soldiers at a parade. It made me feel as though II was in the midst of a garden with fresh air all around me.

Moreover, I enjoyed watching the lime green leaves swaying gently in the cool and gentle breeze,as though they were having a fun time dancing in the wind, as they overlooked the calm and gentle waters of the childrens's sand pool.

My Neighbourhood

LA Poem

Jem asked where I got the gum
I told him I found it
"Don't eat eat things you find"
"This wasn'ton the ground,
it was in a tree."
Jem growled

"It was sticking in the tree yonder"
"Spit it out right now!"
I spat it out.
The tang was fading anyway.
Jem stamped his foot
"You 're not even to touch the trees!"

"But you touched the house once!"
"That was different,You go gargle now."
"Ain't neither,
it'll take the taste outa my mouth"
"You dont't and I'll tell Cal on you"
I didn't want a tangle with her.

My neighbourhood

I live in a condominium. It was full of greenery and trees, making the air very clean and fresh. With wind blowing onto your face while you are walking, it feels like you are going for a walk in a garden. You can always see people swimming in the pool or exercising as well as making use of the provided facilities. Sometimes, in the evening, you can see boys and girls running , screaming and laughing as they play at the playground. Others would be playing soccer. I enjoy living in my condominium very much and would not want to move to another location.

Scout---character sketch

Scout did not use violence against Mr Cunningham even though the Sarun mob was very hostile towards Atticus.
Scout used violence against Walter Cunningham when Scout got into trouble while trying to explain why Walter Cunningham did not bring his lunch and would not accept the teacher’s money.
Scout shouted at Francis and almost got into a fight with him after Francis called Atticus a nigger-lover.
Scout also almost got into a fight with her schoolmate, Cecil Jacobs after he said that Scout’s father, Atticus, defended niggers.
In school, Scout could not tolerate it that her teacher accused Atticus of teaching Scout how to read.

In conclusion, we can see that Scout is mostly very rash in her actions and intolerant of other’s insult or accuses. However, we notice that this changes as Scout grows older and matures. It is also because Scout has a pleasant growing environment where the people around her exercise tolerance. Some examples are Atticus, Miss Maudie, Jem and Mr Dolphus Raymond.

My childhood memory

I remembered when I was young, both my parents were working and thus, I was sent to the babysitter. Staying at the babysitters house had a huge impact on me. It taught me to be more independent instead of always relying on others to do the dirty work. It also helped me to develop my social skills as my babysitter often brought me to naby peoples houses to make friends. Sometimes, my babysitter would also try to teach me some things. I felt that this was a memory worth treasuring as I enjoyed my time there.

Identity-English Short Story

It is that time of year again. Red streamers cascaded over the doorway, framed by crimson Chinese couplets while shiny little trinkets dangled from the branches of the newly-bought pussy willows. Kumquat trees pendant with golden fruit graced the entrance to the house, expressing a wish for wealth and prosperity. The predominant colour of the house was red. There were red drapes over the front door to repel demons and they also symbalise happiness and prosperity. Goodies such as pineapple tarts, melon seeds and sweet meats on the coffee table tempted visitors.

It was the first day of Chinese New Year at Kenneth’s house. Visitors were pouring in. Adults sat at the dining table, catching up with each other while munching on melon seeds and other auspicious tidbits. The elders sat on the sofa, laughing and joking as they reminisced over the old days. There were cacophonous exchanges in dialects and “Greed is good” songs were blasting from the speakers. It was a time raw and full of the festive spirit.

Kenneth was playing with the Xbox in front of the television in the room with his cousins, enjoying himself thoroughly, oblivious to the buzz outside. Kenneth felt bemused and alienated at his grandfather’s house, thus, he was glad to be able to play with the Xbox, something that he did everyday back in America. He was not used to speaking mandarin as his parents had migrated to the United States years ago. However, news of his grandfather’s ailing health had reached Kenneth’s family, resulting in their family returning to Singapore to celebrate the Chinese New Year. When Kenneth’s turn at the Xbox was over, he moved away to sit in a corner. His mother tapped him on the shoulder and asked him in Americanised English, “Kenneth, are you enjoying yourself?” He turned around and she saw a frowned etched on her face.

When it was lunch time, Kenneth and the other children finally came out of the room. Kenneth felt himself drawn to the strange dialects the elders spoke and he also enjoyed the tidbits. Just then, his cousin asked him if he wanted pizza. Kenneth nodded his head as he saw the food that was laid out on the table. The elders boasted of their specially prepared dishes for Chinese New Year. There was a wide spread, from abalone, braised duck to clay pot. One of Kenneth’s cousin tried a little and grimaces. “Ah Kong, why are all of these so tasteless?” he asked his grandfather. His grandfather shook his head in disappointment and told him that they were traditional dishes made from the recipe that was passed down for many generations. Just as he said that, Kenneth’s cousin spat out some bachang. He argued that cheesy pizzas, fried chicken and fries were much better.

Kenneth and the other children settled in the living room. Chinese wayang was specially shown on television for the Chinese New Year. They did not stop to look at what was it about before switching the channel to watch their favourite cartoon shows. Some adults came over to offer them some lotus seeds. All of them enjoyed the seeds. One of them blurted out,” They are just like candy!” “No, they are lotus seeds,” one of the adults replied. However, his words fell on deaf ears as the children continued watching television and munching on their “candy”.

In the night, there were organized festivities on the ground floor for the HDB residents. Some of the children lamented at the lion dance and wished for fireworks. As Kenneth watched the festivities, he was reminded of his culture, his roots, and he thought:” I am proud to be a Chinese.” In English.

Scene at my favourite movie

My favourite movie is the Land of the Lost. I found the movie very interesting and humorous. The scene of the place was very realistic, where you can see abandoned machinery, aliens and giant insects and crabs. This show is a fictional show based on imagination. The show is also very exciting and it is as though you can feel what is going on. Try watching the trailer at http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4196401945/

My Favourite Character from To Kill a Mockingbird

My favourite character from To Kill a Mockingbird is Scout. She was the narrater of the story. Th e way she narrated the story from a child's point of view was very interesting and added humour to the story. For example, when Jem said that they had to srtike a match under Boo Radley to make come out, Scout interpreted it as setting fire to the Radley House. this also makes the story more realistic as it is being told by a 6 to 7 year old kid who has limited vocabulary and does not understnad the meaning of idioms.

My Favourite Character

My favourite character is Nemo the clownfish from the movie Finding Nemo years ago. It was a very interesting and exciting show, something that I would nt hesitate to watch again when I was young. I felt that the characteristic of each fish was established very well. Of course, my favourite character was the main star of the show, Nemo. I felt that Nemo behaved the same way a kid would behave in real life-a deep wish for freedom and independence. There is also an underlying message in the movie. It shows us that parents know best for their childresn and independence could lead to disaster if not properly managed.
